Club History

Established in 1975, ALBION SC Santa Monica has a long-standing legacy as the oldest, largest, and most successful competitive youth soccer club on LA’s Westside. As one of the earliest clubs in Southern California, we were pioneers in helping to build and grow the sport of soccer.

Our story began when Robert Marchis recognized the need for a highly competitive soccer experience, mirroring the training and competition levels found in Europe and South America. Inspired by this vision, he founded Real Santa Monica Soccer Club in 1975, naming it after the world-renowned Real Madrid. Over the years, through various name changes and reorganizations, the club evolved while remaining dedicated to providing top-level opportunities for serious athletes.

In 2019, Santa Monica United and Surf Cup Sports formed a partnership, creating new and expansive opportunities for players, coaches, and families. Rebranded as Santa Monica Surf, the club continued its mission to build a robust player pathway for West Los Angeles.

Now, beginning with the 2025/26 season, we are excited to start a new chapter as ALBION SC Santa Monica. This transition marks a commitment to even greater resources and elite pathways, allowing us to expand on our tradition of excellence and continue empowering our players to achieve their fullest potential.

ALBION SC was formed in 1981. ALBION SC was one of the first competitive clubs in San Diego and the top program in San Diego. In the late 80’s early 1990’s many competitive clubs in the area started emerging and heavily competing. In 1998 ALBION SC landed Technical Director, Noah Gins to take over and professionalize the club, develop a club wide curriculum and develop players and teams to play at the highest level in the US. At the time, the club consisted of 6 ALBION SC teams and a large recreational program.

Looking at the present... The club has over 150 plus teams, 1000 plus players representing the ALBION Junior Program, a full blown Recreational program and has played in 20 National Championship games and being crowned National Champion in 2019, 2021, and 2022, won almost every major event in the US, developed over 40 National Team players, many MLS Player and put hundreds and hundreds of players into College on over $57 million dollars in Soccer Scholarships to date. The club represents some of the best soccer in the country and has one of the most prolific coaching staffs within youth soccer. The club is progressively looking at ways to advance the club and the players and will continue to push to higher levels moving forward.  The standards of excellence that the club has set is a bar that only few can achieve in this country.  ALBION SC will continue to make history as it paves the way in youth soccer.
